It is a copy and the owner was Mr Peter Michael Koch from
Hamburg "Called Pit Koch"
Erich Schormann from Lage/germany painted the car in 1976. Erich Schormann was also a DRM Racing driver with BMW 2002. More info about him on Google.
The car color was gold prior to painting. We can assume Ceylon metallic (008).

12.000 DM (6000€) car Painting for Racing Fan from Hamburg
Crazy Order to Lage – Attraction for Car exhibition
Lage, Germany. For sure, during his working life a one and only
order, got Erich Schormann, head of the Car Painting Garage in the Werrestrasse
to this result. The car mechanic and racing freak Peter M. Koch from
Hamburg knows Schormann very well from the
Nürburgring and Hockenheimring.
He wants to create a dream : a BMW CISL Coupe like the CanAm Series
at a cost above 100.000 DM (50.000€).
This must be a 100% copy of the BMW AG Exhibition car from the Art designer Frank Stella with thousands of black/white tiles and dynamic lines painted and a own creation of Technic and Art and very popular in the BMW Museum.
The car painting garage in Lage seams to be the right one. Erich Schormann
thought a long time about this project and finally decided
to do it.
After 300 hours and a 12 layer painting – an amazing car with
many spoilers and aluminum doors and hoods – the car was presented
to the Hamburger car fan. Erich said: „I don`t know, if would do
this again, it was a very hard job“
The invoice price is the proof of the hard work in terms of working
hours: 12.000 DM (6000€).
The draft was based on original pictures, magnifyied and transferred on the car.
Yesterday the car was presented to his owner, but he wouldn't say
anything about high speed and power.
The BMW Car dealer in Detmold Autohaus Depping, wants to present
this car during the spring show in the Sparkasse.
History:
2020: This E9s technical overhaul was done by tuning shop Peter Koch in Hamburg. The E9 has been with its current owner since 2006. Since then it has been completely disassembled, restored and upgraded with a six cylinder engine (3.5 liter) as well as two Weber double carburettors . Since 2017 it has been licensed in Germany. This BWM 3.0 CSL Racing-Coupé with road license is one of a kind.
